Eben-Ezer Church - Companion Church
Yaxhachen, Yucatan, Mexico


The Eben-Ezer Presbyterian Church is located in the small Mayan village of Yaxhachen.  OSLC has supported this congregation in a number of projects including the construction of a new cement block church.

Peoples Church – Companion Church
Bemidji, Minnesota

Peoples Church is a mission church of the ELCA and reaches out to those who have no church home and to those who are in need.  Peoples Church can be said to be living Jesus Christ's instructions as found in Matthew 25: 31-46.

Churches United for the Homeless
Moorhead, Minnesota

Churches United for the Homeless offers spiritual ministry and emotional affirmation to homeless people, furnishes a temporary emergency shelter for homeless people, and refers residents to appropriate services such as Job Service, Social Services, Mental Health and AA programs.  On the first Tuesday of each month the OSLC monthly service unit cooks the dinner meal.  OSLC is a member church of churches united.  The current representatives are David Cusey and Barbara Bustamante.

F-M Dorothy Day House of Hospitality

A caring Christian community that provides services to the homeless and hungry.  Space is available for up to 10 men.  On the third Tuesday of each month OSLC's monthly service provides the evening meal.

New Life Center

Providing temporary shelter, food and on-site meals to homeless men and families. Works with clients to achieve self-sufficiency.  Located at: 1902 3rd Ave N, Fargo, ND 58102. 
Provides travelers aid assistance.   OSLC representatives to the New Life Center are Sandra Buzick and Marlene Johnson.

FM Emergency Food Pantry

OSLC volunteer at ther food pantry and help collect food donations.
Hunger Issues

The Missions Committee deals with hunger issues throughout the year.  Denise Bakkum attended the hunger workshop at Bethesda Lutheran Church, and provided a short presentation on organizing CROP Walks.  Karl Bakkum attended the Hunger workshop at Dilworth Lutheran church, Dec 4th.  Karl and Denise are OSLC’s hunger representatives to the ELCA and local synod.


Global Health Ministries (GHM)

GHM is an organization that supports Lutheran medical missionaries around the world.  Each year the Missions Committee assembles midwife kits, which are delivered by GHM to midwives in the field.  Assembling midwife kits is an ongoing project with three-dozen kits sent in 2004. 

CROP Walk

Each year the Missions committee helps sponsor and organize the Fargo-Moorhead CROP Walk, a program of Church World Service. The 2004 walk raised $26,164.00, twenty-five percent of this amount remained in our community, divided between six organizations: CUFH, F-M YWCA, New Life Center, Great Plains Food Bank, Dorothy Day House and Salvation Army.  Each organization received a check for $935.17.  The 2005 walk will be April 17th, starting from MSUM.

Olivewood Sales in Support of
Palestinian Christians

The Missions Committee supports the work of Palestinian Christians living in Bethlehem, through the sale of olivewood carvings.  Proceeds from these sales are sent to the carvers helping 45 families survive. 



Blood Drive

The Missions committee, through the work of Beth Olson, organizes the quarterly blood drives at Our Saviors.  Four times a year the bloodmobile visits OSLC when usually 40 to 50 people give blood.  We appreciate their faithfulness.
Giving Tree Activity

Through the coordination of Jean Anderson, a Giving Tree was set up at the church during early December with names of children and adults in need with suggested gift items.  Fifty names were taken and gifts provided.
Refugee Resettlement

The mission committee works with refugee resettlement.  No refugee activities took place in 2004, but an increase in refugee resettlement is expected in 2005.
